Tensions with the United States do not mean that Russia is going to reduce its presence in the market of Mexico, which is one of the main trading partners of Washington. This opinion was expressed to Russian journalists by the ambassador of Russia in the Latin American country Victor Koronelli.
“On the contrary, one more task that I set for myself is not only to support domestic companies that aspire to work here, but also in all ways to promote their interests in the Mexican market,” the diplomat said. Victor Koronelli stressed that with “all the difficult moments associated with relations with the United States,” he proceeds from the premise that “the economic component of Russian cooperation with Mexico is an absolutely independent line and a self-sufficient direction.”
The ambassador also noted that work on protecting the interests of Russian business should be conducted both through the foreign policy department and the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Russian Export Center, as well as with non-governmental organizations such as the National Committee for the Promotion of Economic Cooperation with Latin American Countries.
The Russian Ambassador believes that after the new administration of Mexico came to power, contacts between representatives of Russia and the Latin American country in the trade and economic area are intensifying.
Last year, the volume of trade between Mexico and Russia amounted to about 1.7 billion. This year, as Coronelli’s predecessor Eduard Malayan said, it is possible to increase the volume of trade to two and a half billion dollars.
