The total volume of freight traffic on the US railways in August amounted to 2.83 million units of cars, containers and trailers. This is 4.5% more than in the same period last year.
The volume of intermodal transport grew by 5.1%, to 1.44 million units. The volume of wagons was 1.39 million pieces, which is 3.8% more than a year earlier.
In general, in the last summer month, the load growth is observed for the most part of the nomenclature – 16 out of 20. This is the maximum rate since January 2015. Including grain transportation volumes increased by 19.8%, oil and products from oil – by 28.8%, chemistry – by 7.8%. The volume of transportation of coal decreased by 3.2%; nonmetallic ores – by 16.6%; of metal ores – by 3.2%.
In January-August 2018, aggregate freight traffic on the US railways grew by 4%, to 18.89 million units. Wagon loads increased by 1.9%, in the intermodal segment, growth was 6%.
